The following things have to be discussed and covered in July 16th, 2004 meeting. These are all suggestions to all of you to look into in this meeting.

To make Kannada as widely prevalent as possible on the existing and future base of installed computers in Karnataka as well as its diaspora around the world.

a. Existing base of computers:

Easy convertibility of documents and databases to and from Unicode and Iscii.
Standardization of a bi-lingual font in Kannada for usage on Windows 98 and Linux
Font manager for rendering Unicode on Windows 98 and Linux using Truetype fonts.
A font renderer for Opentype fonts in Windows 98 with Unicode.
Multiple keyboard layout support like Typewriter, Inscript apart from the GOK standard (based on K.P. Rao)
Development of aesthetic Kannada fonts in both Truetype and Opentype in Kannada

b. Encouragement to an "Open Source Group" for Kannada development.

c. Ensure availability of low cost computing devices which are Kannada enabled to the public at large.

d. Allow a level playing field for all entities.

e. A lot of non-kannada people who find it difficult to read the Kannada script can be drawn into reading official and literary works in kannada if the script barrier is overcome.

f. What are the GO's should be changed at GoK level and recomendations to GoK after this meeting and to include the conclusions of May 25th meeting.

There are other things which people can bring in the meeting also. These have to be considered and discussed.

If you have any questions , please contact:

Dr. L. Halemane 98801-39613 and Mr. Satheesh Gowda 98861-28500.
